I had one great experience and one not-so-great at City Gate in Exeter. My first night in a spacious and beautifully decorated room was good, complete with luxurious amenities and thoughtful touches. However, on my return, I found myself in a tiny room that felt awkward and uncomfortable. The charm of the hotel is undeniable, but the inconsistency between the rooms impacted my overall stay.

My stay at City Gate was enjoyable with a few hiccups. The room was beautifully decorated with high-quality amenities, and I especially loved the complimentary treats. However, I did experience some issues with breakfast service and a surprise charge after my stay that dampened the experience a bit.

I had a bit of a mixed experience at City Gate. The location was prime for exploring Exeter, being a short walk from the city center. While my room was nice and clean, I faced some hiccups during check-in and my initial room wasn’t quite up to scratch. The staff were friendly and really tried to help, which I appreciated, but it felt a little disorganized overall.

Rooms
6.0
My attic room was clean but quite small and cramped, and the air conditioning was really loud. I did get moved to a better room later, which was more comfortable and met my requests, so that turned things around a bit.
Service

The staff were super friendly and eager to help, although I did have to call for someone to check me in which was kinda frustrating. They did try to make amends when I brought up my concerns, giving a complimentary drink, which was a nice touch.
Location

Location-wise, it was great! Just a few minutes walk from the city center and easy to find. It’s right near loads of restaurants and shops, so that was definitely a win.
Dining

The dining options were decent, though I think breakfast could use a little work. It wasn’t a total shambles but it wasn’t super impressive either. Still, the bar area had a great vibe, so that was fun.
Facilities
7.0
They had good facilities available like room service and a welcome drink, which I appreciated. The atmosphere in the pub/bar area was cozy, making it a chill spot to unwind after a long day.
